Emily Kortright

Emily Kortright is an associate attorney at The Colwell Law Group, LLC, with its offices located in Syracuse, Albany and Saratoga Springs, New York. She is well-known among her peers and colleagues for providing effective representation and zealous legal counsel for her clients. Previously employed as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Rodney Cunningham at the Family Division of the Atlantic County Superior Court, she now handles cases related to child abuse and neglect, custody, adoption and juvenile delinquency.Ms. Kortright completed her undergraduate studies at Skidmore College, graduating magna cum laude in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and a double minor in creative writing and business management. During her time there, she made it to the dean’s list and was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society. To further pursue her interest in the legal profession, she went on to receive her Juris Doctor from The Pennsylvania State University – Dickinson School of Law in 2021, with a certificate in cyber law, data privacy and information security. She was awarded the Clinical Legal Education Association’s Outstanding Clinic Student Award for her efforts at the Dickinson Law Children’s Advocacy Clinic.With a considerable track record of legal work experience, Ms. Kortright completed internships at prominent legal organizations where she gained skills and proficiency in the practice areas of real estate, trusts and estates, litigation, family law matters and business transactions. She also got the chance to appear in court to represent young adults who were aging out of the foster care system and advocated for their rights and best interests. Passionate about ensuring the rights of vulnerable individuals in complex legal systems, she worked as a student contractor for the Future of Privacy Forum’s Youth & Education Privacy program, drafting legislation to protect the privacy rights of foster children located in Pennsylvania.Ms. Kortright is an active member of her legal community and engages with notable legal associations such as the New York State Bar Association. An author of many significant publications and blogs, she has written articles for the University of Michigan Law School’s Journal of Law and Mobility, The Pennsylvania State University – Dickinson School of Law’s Children's Advocacy Center Blog and so on.
