Gary Maitland

With more than 30 years of experience, Gary Maitland advocates on behalf of those who have been charged with criminal offenses. A partner at Kreisberg & Maitland, LLP, Mr. Maitland lends his legal knowledge and counsel to people living in New York, New York. In addition to offering criminal defense representation, he also accepts cases involving civil rights and other litigation issues, including police misconduct cases, labor arbitrations, and business and contract disputes.Before entering into private practice, Mr. Maitland served as an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, New York. Working on the other side gave him valuable insight into how the opposition investigates, builds and prosecutes cases. He appreciates that criminal allegations can put his clients’ freedom, as well as their futures, on the line, and he takes the time to listen to their side of the story and their legal objectives. He then customizes his guidance and strategy based on their unique circumstances. Mr. Maitland helps his clients understand the laws that apply to their situations, and he keeps them informed about their options throughout the legal process.After earning a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College, Mr. Maitland went on to attend the Boston University School of Law. From there, he received a Juris Doctor in 1978. Additionally, he honed his skills at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and the National Criminal Defense College.Mr. Maitland is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
