Steven J. Kaplan

Steven Kaplan is an experienced labor and employment law attorney with over 40 years of experience. His career began in 1978 when he went to work for the National Labor Relations Board. Mr. Kaplan went on to work for several law firms in the Los Angeles area. He then opened his solo practice, the Law Offices of Steven J. Kaplan, in 2009, where he emphasizes representation of employees, trade unions, and occasionally employers, in all aspects of labor and employment law, including wrongful termination, discrimination, whistleblowing, harassment, collective bargaining and union grievances.Mr. Kaplan also serves as an arbitrator on the American Arbitration Association’s employment law panel, and since 2018 has been a Lecturer in Law at the UCLA School of Law. He also acts as a volunteer mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court Civil Referee Assisted Settlement Hearing Program.Steven Kaplan's success in labor and employment law can be seen in his precedent-setting appeals and the recognition he receives from the legal community, including serving as the Chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section from 2004-2005. In 2010, he was inducted as a Fellow into the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Mr. Kaplan is an occasional contributor to a variety of legal publications and is a frequent speaker on labor and employment law topics at legal seminars.Mr. Kaplan is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Committee and the California Employment Lawyers Association. In addition to his legal work and professional associations, he has served on the Board of non-profit organizations, including Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, the Progressive Jewish Alliance (where he served as President), and he co-chaired the Los Angeles Jewish Commission on Sweatshops.
