He moved to Alabama to pursue his law degree at the Samford University Cumberland School of Law, where he received his doctorate in jurisprudence in 1992 and was admitted to practice law in Florida the same year.Right after obtaining his bar license, Mr. Smith began his legal career as a criminal prosecutor working as an assistant state attorney under Bernie McCabe in the 6th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's office in Clearwater. After working there for almost half a decade, he gained immense trial experience and knowledge while prosecuting numerous felony and misdemeanor crimes.
