    Verdicts/Settlements (Case Results):
    • In July 2019, Katherine worked with the trial team that secured a full acquittal for its client Joseph SanFilippo, the former CFO of Platinum Partners in a federal criminal jury trial in which Mr. SanFilippo was accused of securities fraud. The charges brought against Mr. SanFilippo concerned an alleged scheme to deceive investors in Platinum's flagship fund. Following a nine-week trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the jury acquitted Mr. SanFilippo on all counts. The case has been cited in legal publications as one of the year's most notable white collar victories., 2019
    Representative Clients:
    •   This Firm is known largely for its success in getting results for clients who have pending SEC matters. We have helped many businesses and individuals in high-profile cases involving the SEC. Some of the various types of clients and cases that our lawyers handle in connection with the SEC include the representation of broker-dealers accused of insider trading or securities fraud, defending investment advisors accused of inadequate disclosures, protecting companies who have been charged with failing to oversee employees who allegedly falsified information about investments, and representing foreign companies that have been accused of improperly soliciting clients. In the last few months, the Department has expanded and the Firm has been in the media for its representation in the novel Digital Asset/Cryptocurrency area of law and has assisted companies to reshape businesses and represents a universal regulatory work progressing with speed. Partner, Adam Ford filed a lawsuit in New York which claims that an early DigitalBits investor, Mark Dorrell, was “personally defrauded out of at least $160 million [£122.5million] ... by its founders, who kept his cash and tokens and used them to unjustly enrich themselves and their friends”. At least two former employees complain that they have not been paid and report alleged technical shortcomings in the project. Adam Ford argues in the lawsuit that the company would have defrauded the very first investors - when DB was still unknown - by collecting their investments without paying them the equivalent in cryptocurrency. The contracts drawn up provided that the cryptocurrency to be received in exchange should be XDB, without specifying which version. The Firm anticipates this Department to expand in the upcoming months. Now that the price of the cryptocurrency has declined sharply against the dollar over the past month, we are taking aggressive action to swiftly recover compensation for our clients., 2022
