Confidential settlement with retail chain for brain injury by guest injured by defect on premises. 2016. Confidential settlement with oilfield contractor for brain injury suffered by employee injured by defective equipment. 2015. Texas State Comptroller: 1.6 million dollar jury verdict in an age discrimination case by a thrity-year employed told to retire or be terminated. 2009 In Re Estate of Hanys: successful defense of a will leaving a large bequest to a church. The will was contested by family members of the deceased. 2009 Casey v. Harris County. 3 million dollar verdict against Harris County for Constables excessive use of force against a mentally ill man resulting in his death. Currently on appeal. 2008 Nieves v. East Texas Medical Center: 3.3 million dollar jury verdict for EMT sexually harassed by a co-worker. The Employer terminated the plaintiff after she lodged her complaints against the harasser. 2008 Blair v. Van Horn: $500,000 medical malpractice judgment against a urologist who damaged the patients ureter during a surgical procedure. Judgment paid without appeal. 2007 Munoz v. McAllen Medical Center: 500,000 medical malpractice judgment in favor of family of a deceased elderly man who was given an overdose of painkillers in the hospital. The judgment was affirmed on appeal. 2005 Davis v. Texas Lime: 1.1 million judgment in favor of truck driver who wrecked after her truck came into contact with Lime accumulated on the highway outside a lime plant. The judgment was paid after oral arguments in the Court of Appeals. 2005 Williams v. Waffle House 4 million dollar jury verdict (reduced by tort reform to $900,000) to a waitress sexually harassed by a co-worker. The employer failed to respond to repeated complaints by the waitress. Affirmed on appeal by the Court of Appeals. Texas Supreme Court - affirmed with modification based on tort reform caps. Actual recoveries by the client are less than the amount of judgment or verdict. Judgments are reduced by attorneys fees (typically 40%) and case expenses. Further, medical insurers often recieve reimbursement for medical expenses paid by them., 2018
