    Verdicts/Settlements (Case Results):
    • Sean was responsible for taking depositions and drafting pleadings and motions in an oil well blowout case, where the plaintiff suffered second and third degree burns and severe PTSD. Since the plaintiff was supervising the snubbing unit when the well blew out, the defendant—a major oil and gas company—argued that he was entirely responsible for the accident. Sean and his team, however, discovered that there was a flaw in the equipment caused by a basic math error on the defendant’s part, and no matter what the plaintiff would have done, he couldn’t have prevented the blowout. Thanks to this discovery, Sean helped secure a $3.5 million settlement for the plaintiff.
    • Sean helped secure the largest back injury verdict in North Dakota history. During a rig move operation on an oil field, the client was hit in the back with a Kelly hose, causing him to have multiple back surgeries and spinal fusions. At trial, the odds were stacked against Sean and his co-counsel: there were no witnesses to the injury; the client had a past history of substance use, which brought up issues of possible medical negligence; and there was unfavorable medical testimony. Still, Sean and his team were able to defeat these challenges and achieve a $4.1 million verdict for their client.
    • Sean was on a trial team that secured a $4.7 million settlement for a man who was forced to undergo an at-the-knee amputation after a pipe rolled off a rack on an oil field and smashed his leg. The pipe should have been secured with pin stops, but none had been used. The defendant argued that the plaintiff and his employer were responsible for ensuring pin stops were in place before beginning work, but Sean and his co-counsel proved that the duty fell on the company that stacked the pipe. Ultimately, they convinced the defendant to give up liability and achieved a very positive settlement for the client.
